Congregations have experienced troubling declines in attendance and financial strength, thereby reducing their capacity to support fixed costs, member interests, and community needs. COVID-19 has exacerbated these traumas. Churches experiencing disruptive changes run the risk of making high-impact decisions in nervous reaction to threats of survival, which can be costly. The Community Collaborative for Youth Safety (CCYS) is an initiative that brings together different groups with a shared interest in protecting at-risk children. In the instance profiled in this video, Chicago parents, youth, church leaders and police engaged in workshops, discussion groups and role-play scenarios to help create and implement solutions collectively.
